At Texas Gold and Silver Buyers of San Antonio, we have numerous interactions with our awesome customers each and every day. The past several months we have noticed a trend of customers being misinformed about Gold and Silver prices when they come in. Good news though, we have finally pegged down the culprit! Turns out Google, Alexa and Siri are guilty of this. If you Google, or ask Siri "What are the Gold Prices Today?" or similar, it turns out that they are returning results that are flat out wrong or misleading. We don't believe this is on purpose, but those search options are definitely pulling outdated information more often than not. Below I am going to show where today on 8/15/2018, a Google search was done on "What is the price of Gold?" The results not only returned an inaccurate quote, it also returns some confusing information on the price of gold per gram. We have tested Siri and Alexa as well and it seems they are also returning incorrect information. Again we don't think this is done on purpose, but just returning outdated results. The photo below of prices from Monex show the actual and real time prices of Precious Metals at the same exact time the Google search was done. We aren't saying that Monex is the one and only accurate and real time resource, as it is one of many. But a simple Google, Siri, or Alexa query or search is not producing the correct prices as of the time this blog is being authored. Furthermore if you do the same searches or queries with Google, Siri, or Alexa on the price of gold per gram, it is returning results of the price of 24k gold (Fine Gold). This can be very confusing to people not in the industry. Precious Metals are quoted for Fine Gold and Silver, not Karated Gold, Sterling Silver, Coin Silver or similar. If you would like to learn about how you can calculate the Spot or Market pricing of Karated Gold, Sterling Silver, etc. please see our blog post on that by clicking the gold button below the photos in this blog post. We strive for our customers to be in the know on all things Gold, Silver, Platinum and Palladium and felt it was very important to share where to accurately and reputably check Gold, Silver, Platinum and Palladium prices. In addition to Monex, another reputable Spot Pricing site that can be found is Kitco. These are just a few of the many, many options, but we can speak for both of these sites as being accurate and up-to-date by the second. We are in the process of updating our office to have the current Spot (market) prices of Precious Metals displayed at all times to ensure our customers an honest and transparent transaction.
